29 Belvedere in Bath is typical example of a building that has had several different lives over the centuries. Built as a dwelling in the late 1700’s it was soon converted into a chemist with ‘live over the shop’ accommodation before most recently becoming a house of multiple occupancy over 5 floors. These incremental changes invariably erode the nature and character of the property but also provide great potential for careful subtractive and additive enhancement. In this instance the new owner was keen to reinstate the upper three floors as an apartment whilst retaining an aspect of business and a basement flat. The reinstatement of historic features and the removal of excessive bathrooms and kitchens ensured that spaces were returned to their original proportions creating a desirable property.
